The Things We Become In The Dark

Balanced between shadow and light, instinct and performance, innocence and adaptation—this work unfolds like a psychological mirror disguised as myth. Split perfectly between darkness and emptiness, the composition becomes a visual meditation on duality: the selves we inherit, the selves we perform, and the creatures we become in order to survive.

Two amphibian-like guardians emerge from opposing worlds, their luminous blue forms suspended between water, dream, and memory. Their wide, watchful eyes suggest ancient awareness—observers of transformation, mutation, and emotional camouflage. Neither predator nor prey, they exist as witnesses to becoming.

At the center hangs a crimson mask—part face, part fruit, part ritual object, part warning. Suspended like an offering, it feels simultaneously playful and unsettling. One side reflects shadow, the other illumination—suggesting that identity is rarely singular, and truth often exists somewhere between opposing versions of ourselves.

The monochromatic division of black and ivory creates a theatrical tension, while the bursts of cobalt, crimson, and textured organic forms breathe life into the void. The work feels almost biological, spiritual, and subconscious all at once—as though evolution itself has become a self-portrait.
