Rhythms Of Inheritance

Rhythms of Inheritance is a vibrant mixed-media exploration of cultural continuity, performance, and the evolving language of identity in a modern world. Standing between ritual symbolism and contemporary technology, the central figure appears as both performer and messenger—adorned with feathers, ceremonial garments, and symbolic markings while surrounded by speakers, cords, and animal companions.

The peacock feathers—symbols of vision, pride, and spiritual awareness—transform the figure into a living antenna, receiving and transmitting ancestral knowledge across generations. The presence of baboons, creatures often associated with intelligence, social memory, and survival, reinforces themes of community, instinct, and inherited wisdom.

By placing traditional imagery alongside modern sound equipment, Mahlatt creates a dialogue between old ceremonies and new forms of expression, asking what happens when culture refuses to disappear—and instead learns new rhythms.

In Rhythms of Inheritance, tradition does not fade with time. It evolves, amplifies, and dances forward.
